This Prairie-style house from the 1920s had a great exterior and a rental interior. The kitchen was dated and tacky with Formica countertops and cabinets that had seen better days. We took a small 10×12 room and maximized space while keeping it from looking small. The result is a beautiful kitchen that looks original to the house with painted shaker cabinets and modern appliances. The uppers are glass-faced shaker with beadboard-backed interiors that are lighted with pucks inside and under. The sink is a custom-ordered slate sink with Vetrazzo glass countertops. Even the ceiling is the original ship lap which we accented with screen molding and painted.
